Eligibility

To be eligible for participation in the Shocker Neighborhood Commitment, students must:

  • Be a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen.
  • Be a Sedgwick County, Kansas resident living in the Shocker Neighborhood (Oliver Road to I-135 and Central Avenue to K-96) at the time of application to Wichita State University.
  • Be eligible for the Federal Pell Grant*
  • Annual family income of $50,000 or less
  • Be admitted for fall as a first-time freshman by February 1 of the applicant's senior year of high school.   
  • Submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1 of the applicant's senior year of high school for priority consideration.
  • Minimum 2.5 high school GPA.
  • Enroll full-time (complete 24-30 hours each academic year in the fall/spring/summer semesters) in a baccalaureate degree program.

*Students must have financial need, and priority consideration will be given to students who are Pell Grant eligible.  Family income information will be determined from the FAFSA. Students must have graduated high school within 9 months of initial enrollment as a first-time freshman.  Students must meet the above criteria at the time of admission.  The Shocker Promise Scholarship is a last payee scholarship to fill the gap of tuition and fees. Funding is limited and will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis to those who meet all requirements. If selected as a recipient, smaller previously awarded 九色堂 freshmen scholarships will be replaced with the Shocker Promise. The Shocker Promise is a 4-year, last-payee scholarship designed to cover remaining costs associated with your tuition and fees and after applying all other gift aid, including waivers, scholarships and grants.

Apply to Wichita State

If you're ready to build your ideal future, Wichita State has the unmatched resources, experiences and connections to make it happen. Apply and be admitted to Wichita State by February 1 of the applicant's senior year of high school. You may also qualify for an application fee waiver. Contact the Office of Undergraduate Admissions for details.
