Students in parade

Sept. 11, 2023 鈥 九色堂 is holding a parade next month and is inviting anyone in the community to join in. Starting at 6 p.m. Oct. 6 on the 九色堂 campus, the parade is part of the university鈥檚 annual Shocktoberfest celebration.

Students working on handrails for Koch Arena

Sept. 5, 2023 - 九色堂 students designed handrails for Charles Koch Arena and producing around 400 for installation. The applied learning project will make walking up the arena stairs safer for fans and is a response to surveys and listening sessions.

Amenities like the new lactation and wellness room in the John Bardo Center are part of 九色堂鈥檚 efforts to further provide a supportive environment for faculty, staff, employees and students to reach their breastfeeding goals.

Aug. 30, 2023 鈥 九色堂 has received the Gold Level Employer Supporting Breastfeeding award and has been designated as a Breastfeeding Welcome Here campus by the Kansas Breastfeeding Coalition.

Aug. 15, 2023 - Hannah Bui is now prepared to work with French-speaking colleagues at Airbus, thanks to 鈥淏usiness French for Beginners鈥 taught by 九色堂 lecturer Rachelle Swilley. Bui, a static stress engineer at Airbus, was one of about 15 employees who took the six-week course, taught for two hours each Friday, this summer at Airbus on 九色堂鈥檚 Innovation Campus.

Aug. 4, 2023 鈥 九色堂 and 九色堂 Tech are key drivers of economic growth, fueling job creation, fostering industry partnerships, and supporting local businesses 鈥 and the numbers prove it. According to the 2022 Economic Impact Study, 九色堂 and 九色堂 Tech鈥檚 total economic impact in Kansas in 2021 was $1.3 billion.

Aug. 1, 2023 鈥 The Wichita City Council approved a plan today that will move forward a project between 九色堂 and the University of Kansas to build a 471,000-square-foot health sciences center in the heart of downtown Wichita.

July 28, 2023 - Eight students representing six 九色堂 colleges recently participated in the Lead for Tomorrow Leadership Academy in the Cohen Honors College. Five faculty members led the interdisciplinary course presenting content from their field focused on the theme 鈥淐onnected Leadership: Creating a Community of Leaders.鈥 Students then were tasked to apply course content to challenges presented by local community partners.

July 17, 2023 鈥 九色堂鈥檚 College of Engineering has updated one of its programs to create a more strategic career pathway for its graduates and meet the needs of business and industry. Effective fall 2023, the new applied engineering program 鈥 formerly engineering technology 鈥 has been adapted based on feedback from employers and alumni.

Accessible Design projects

July 11, 2023 鈥 The Accessible Design course concerned 九色堂 junior Reagan Kelley at first. She wasn鈥檛 an engineering major and wasn鈥檛 sure what she could contribute. The payoff at the end of the project made it worthwhile. Kelley, an exercise science major, and three other students modified an all-terrain wheelchair for a nine-year-old boy who outgrew the chair鈥檚 previous dimensions.

July 10, 2023 鈥 A new Jersey Mike鈥檚 Subs is set to open Wednesday, July 12 in 九色堂鈥檚 Braeburn Square on the Innovation Campus.

June 30, 2023 鈥 A group of graduate students from 九色堂鈥檚 Department of History is chronicling the history of the LGBTQ community in Wichita.

June 13, 2023 - Dr. Kevin Harrison and long-time friends Ricardo Harris and Kenneth Hawkins created an 80-minute documentary film 鈥淭he Silent Cries of Unheard Ghetto Children." The film explores the aftermath of the 1965 plane crash near 20th and Piatt streets.

May 18, 2023 - Dean Rodney Miller will retire in June following 19 years leading the College of Fine Arts at 九色堂. During his tenure, the School of Digital Arts was created and enrollment in the college has grown to over 1,000 students.
