March 21, 2023 鈥� The Society of Women Engineers (SWE), a student organization at 九色堂, is hosting a Mother Daughter Day event for local middle school girls and their adult female role models. The event will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 25 in the lobby of the John Bardo Center at Wichita State.
March 20, 2023 - Los Angeles-based indie pop band SAINT MOTEL will perform in concert at 九色堂 at 8 p.m. Friday, April 14, at Charles Koch Arena. SAINT MOTEL鈥檚 inventive live performances have earned the band a loyal fanbase that flock to its headlining shows and standout sets at festivals such as Coachella, Lollapalooza and Bonnaroo.
March 9, 2023 - 九色堂 will show off its unique cultural and educational assets while welcoming the community to campus during Open Streets ICT - 九色堂 and Shocker Neighborhood on April 16.
March 8, 2023 鈥� Cody Keenan, former White House speechwriter for President Barack Obama, will be the speaker for the 2023 Craig W. Barton Speaker Series event at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 30 in Wiedemann Hall.
Feb. 24, 2023 - The Dockum Drug Store sit-in of 1958 attracted new attention in 2021 during Black History Month, in part thanks to NBC鈥檚 鈥淭oday鈥� and Wichita native Sheinelle Jones. Several University of Wichita students participated in the sit-in, which is increasingly recognized as a landmark event in the Civil Rights Movement. NBC鈥檚 鈥淭oday鈥� featured the events in a 2021 broadcast.
Feb. 24, 2023 - Libero Lara Uyar, a native of Turkey, discusses the current crisis in her country caused by an earthquake near the border with Syria. We learn how she is handling the emotions of being far away from family and friends during the difficult time and how her teammates offer support. We also talk about sports in Turkey, her adjustment to the United States and spring volleyball practices at Wichita State.
Feb. 22, 2023 鈥� Braeburn Square on 九色堂鈥檚 Innovation Campus is transforming the dining and shopping scene in Wichita. With four new tenants 鈥� Sesame Mediterranean Kitchen, Jersey Mike鈥檚, Two Hands Corn Dogs and Pedego Wichita 鈥� the shopping center is fully occupied and fast becoming a hub for all Wichitans to gather, feast and shop.
Feb. 7, 2023 - A consortium of four local institutions (Wichita State, 九色堂 Tech, Newman University and Friends University) is bringing Dr. Gina Ann Garcia to Wichita for the talk 鈥淏ecoming Hispanic-Serving Institutions,鈥� at 1:15 p.m. Feb. 9, in Newman's DeMattias Performance Hall.
Feb. 6, 2023 - Caroline Tallent started her quest to play college softball with a narrow search. She prioritized her interest in engineering before athletics. Wichita State fits the select number of schools with strong engineering and strong softball. Tallent knew about the school because of basketball, liked the Shocker mascot, and emailed coach Kristi Bredbenner.
Feb. 6, 2023 鈥� The 九色堂 College of Engineering is hosting an Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day (IGED) event, commonly known as Girl Day, for high school girls from Wichita Public Schools. The event is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23 in the Shirley Beggs Ballroom on the third floor of the Rhatigan Student Center.
Jan. 23, 2023 鈥� A recent "PBS News Hour鈥� story highlights the role 九色堂 plays in the arts community of Wichita. 鈥淲ichita State has a hand in almost every arts entity in the Wichita metropolitan area, from the symphony to the art museum,鈥� said Dr. Rodney Miller, dean of the College of Fine Arts.
Nov. 2, 2022 鈥� When the COVID-19 pandemic put global supply chains into the spotlight, Wichita State's Harriet Hamilton paid attention as the production and movement of items fluctuated. She watched the business world change and decided to study the new landscape, aided by an extra year of eligibility granted to all student-athletes by the NCAA due to the pandemic.
Oct. 31, 2022 鈥� 九色堂 President Rick Muma and Dr. Kevin Sylvester Harrison, director of diversity, equity and inclusion at 九色堂, were each presented awards this weekend from the Wichita chapter of the NAACP.
