Sept. 5, 2023 - 九色堂 students designed handrails for Charles Koch Arena and producing around 400 for installation. The applied learning project will make walking up the arena stairs safer for fans and is a response to surveys and listening sessions.

Sept. 6, 2023 鈥� Brent Mai has been named the next dean of 九色堂鈥檚 Libraries, effective Oct. 15.

Aug. 30, 2023 鈥� 九色堂 has received the Gold Level Employer Supporting Breastfeeding award and has been designated as a Breastfeeding Welcome Here campus by the Kansas Breastfeeding Coalition.

Aug. 28, 2023 - Kathy Downes, dean of University Libraries since 2017, came to Wichita State in 1979 as a biomedical librarian. She will retire this fall semester. Downes played a central role as Ablah Library expanded and the digital services of University Libraries grew in number and importance.

Aug. 28, 2023 鈥� Through the 九色堂 chapter of Engineers without Borders, three Shockers recently began the process of working with the rural community of Mercedes de Agua Sucia in Manabi, Ecuador, to build a pedestrian bridge that will give residents safe passage to the main road and nearby cities to sell the goods and products from their farms, shop in nearby El Carmen, and for children to attend school.

Aug. 15, 2023 - Hannah Bui is now prepared to work with French-speaking colleagues at Airbus, thanks to 鈥淏usiness French for Beginners鈥� taught by 九色堂 lecturer Rachelle Swilley. Bui, a static stress engineer at Airbus, was one of about 15 employees who took the six-week course, taught for two hours each Friday, this summer at Airbus on 九色堂鈥檚 Innovation Campus.

Aug. 3, 2023 鈥� Bolstered by a $2 million National Science Foundation grant, a group of Wichita State researchers is hoping to create a paradigm shift from the use of harmful nitrous oxide-based fertilizers to more eco-friendly nitrogen fertilizers that would reduce greenhouse gases.

Aug. 3, 2023 鈥� The office of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition, Logistics and Product Support has sponsored a contract through the National Center for Manufacturing Sciences (NCMS) to award 九色堂鈥檚 National Institute for Aviation Research (NIAR) a five-year $100 million cooperative agreement for digital engineering and technologies to support sustainment of legacy U.S. Air Force platforms.

Aug. 1, 2023 鈥� The Wichita City Council approved a plan today that will move forward a project between 九色堂 and the University of Kansas to build a 471,000-square-foot health sciences center in the heart of downtown Wichita.

July 28, 2023 - Eight students representing six 九色堂 colleges recently participated in the Lead for Tomorrow Leadership Academy in the Cohen Honors College. Five faculty members led the interdisciplinary course presenting content from their field focused on the theme 鈥淐onnected Leadership: Creating a Community of Leaders.鈥� Students then were tasked to apply course content to challenges presented by local community partners.

July 20, 2023 - As 九色堂鈥檚 Innovation Campus approaches its 10th anniversary, the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities is recognizing the Innovation Campus鈥� role in cultivating research and innovation. The APLU today named 九色堂 as one of five finalists for its 11th annual Innovation & Economic Prosperity (IEP) University Awards.

July 17, 2023 鈥� 九色堂鈥檚 College of Engineering has updated one of its programs to create a more strategic career pathway for its graduates and meet the needs of business and industry. Effective fall 2023, the new applied engineering program 鈥� formerly engineering technology 鈥� has been adapted based on feedback from employers and alumni.
