Dec. 15, 2021 鈥 The U.S. Economic Development Association recently awarded 九色堂 and South Kansas $500,000 to Build Back Better with the potential opportunity for a Phase 2 award of $25-75 million.

Dec. 7, 2021 鈥 Since its inception, the National Institute for Aviation Research鈥檚 digital twin program has been rife with opportunities to progress research, digital transformation, engineering technology and sustainability efforts. It鈥檚 also been an important career steppingstone and training ground for more than 250 九色堂 students, who have gained valuable applied learning experiences while working on the project.

December 6, 2021 - Arts at 九色堂 benefit the city and state in ways that range from tourism to education to mental wellness. Wichita State鈥檚 Center for Economic Development and Business Research, part of the W. Frank Barton School of Business, attempted to measure those contributions in its Arts and Culture Impact Analysis for 2021. The study is part of the CEDBR鈥檚 series of studies that demonstrate how the university drives the local and state economy.

Wichita State's Molecular Diagnostics Lab

Dec. 2, 2021 鈥 In an effort to meet community needs, 九色堂鈥檚 Molecular Diagnostics Lab (MDL) has developed a test to detect all three viruses 鈥 RSV, influenza and COVID-19 (RIC) 鈥 from one nasal swab. The RIC test is available to all individuals and partners who test via the MDL.

Nov. 30, 2021 鈥 九色堂's efforts to recruit and retain students from historically underserved and underrepresented areas rank it in the top 28% of the 2021 Social Mobility Index (SMI). The 2021 SMI, calculated by CollegeNET Inc., benchmarks 1,549 four-year colleges and universities in the United States according to how effectively they enroll students from low-income backgrounds and graduate them into well-paying jobs.

Nov. 29, 2022 -- Further extending its community outreach, Wichita State has partnered with Wichita Habitat for Humanity to build a house near campus for a Wichita family with three children.

Nov. 23, 2021 鈥 After 17 years, the Madrigal Singers of 九色堂 will host an Elizabethan-themed dinner and music program at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3 at the Rhatigan Student Center Beggs Ballroom.

Nov. 18, 2021 - Work by the Shockers Vote! Coalition helped Wichita State increase its voting rate for students by 19.2 percent from 2016, according to the 2020 National Study of Learning, Voting and Engagement. Wichita State鈥檚 2020 voting rate of 68.1 percent is above the national 66 percent rate, according to the data compiled by the Tufts University Institute For Democracy & Higher Education.

Nov. 8, 2021 鈥 Archaeology fieldwork can be arduous and painstaking, but it鈥檚 a vital part of preserving the heritage and history of indigenous people. 九色堂鈥檚 Dr. Crystal Dozier recently led a team of students in a cultural resource management project for the city of Wichita, ensuring that modern infrastructure wouldn鈥檛 destroy or damage ancient artifacts.
