March 5, 2021 鈥 Students and faculty at the Wichita State Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic have teamed up with the College of Engineering to help a 9-year-old child communicate effectively.

March 3, 2021 - Dr. Larisa Genin wants the W. Frank Barton School of Business to be the best business school in the nation. The plan to reach that status starts with creativity, an entrepreneurial mindset and teamwork. 鈥淚鈥檓 really hoping that anything we do in the Barton School of Business would revolve around three words 鈥 innovation, engagement and impact,鈥 she said. She hands out black and yellow rubber bracelets with the words 鈥淗appiness鈥 and 鈥淛oy鈥 stamped on as a reminder of her philosophy to emphasize a positive mindset and celebrate achievements.

March 1, 2021 - 九色堂 will present a virtual panel on freedom of expression from 3-4:15 p.m. Wednesday, March 31. The event will be moderated by Lee Pelton, a 九色堂 alumnus who has been president of Emerson College in Boston the past 10 years.

Feb. 26, 2021 鈥 Seven students in the College of Health Professions have been named Sherr Scholars.

Veterans Upward Bound Program of 九色堂

February 23, 2021 鈥 The purpose of the Wichita State Upward Bound Program is to improve participants鈥 academic performance, to assist with enrolling into a post-secondary institution and to ensure enrolled participants will graduate from their chosen program.

Feb. 22, 2021 鈥 When we last spoke to Wichita State alumna and 2020 graduate Jade Mursch, her internship had been paused due to COVID-19. After being on hold for a month, Mursch鈥檚 internship was ultimately cut short. After months of uncertainty, Mursch secured a new full-time role.

Prince Yengbe

Feb. 18, 2021 鈥 When Prince Yengbe came to 九色堂 from his home country of Ghana in 2007, he wasn鈥檛 entirely sure what aerospace engineering was, but he knew he wanted to be part of it. Now, after earning a bachelor鈥檚 (2012) and a master鈥檚 degree (2015) in the subject, Yengbe is being honored with the Modern-Day Technology Leader Award by the 2021 Black Engineer of the Year Award (BEYA) STEM Conference.

Student Wellness Center

Feb. 17, 2021 - In the fall, 九色堂 public health sciences students took on the questions and uncertainty of helping with COVID-19 testing at the Student Wellness Center. Most are considering a career in health care. The volunteer time offered an applied learning opportunity working with the public during a pandemic and added to their understanding of public health.

Jan. 27, 2021鈥 A local TV station recently welcomed a Wichita State grad Kaisha Batman into its newsroom, and now 鈥 less than a year after her graduation 鈥 Shocker Nation can see her on air.

Dawna Raehpour

December 11, 2020 - Dawna Raehpour is the recipient of the Stanley Z. Koplik Memorial Scholarship for 2020-21. She will graduate in May with major in public health science and a minor in sociology. The $1,200 scholarship is in honor of Koplik, who served as executive director of the Kansas Board of Regents from 1982-93.

December 1, 2020 - Wichita State鈥檚 Division of Diversity and Inclusion is organizing 鈥淭enacious Men,鈥 a program designed to provide mentoring and STEM education for underrepresent students in Wichita Public Schools.

Isaac Brown

Nov. 11, 2021 -- Isaac Brown is Wichita State's interim men's basketball coach. Brown, 51, joined the coaching staff as an assistant coach in 2014. He has also coached at Arkansas, Arkansas State, Louisiana Tech and others.

Martha Backman

Nov. 18, 2020 鈥 There were two Shocker milestones in 1964: Wichita University became 九色堂, and a 17-year-old Martha Backman walked onto the Wichita State campus and began her college education. It took 56 years, but the 73-year-old is finally graduating with her degree in aging studies.聽

Emma Wiens, 2020 Grad

Nov. 16, 2020 鈥 After completing some pre-requisites at 九色堂 Tech, Emma Wiens attended the Wichita State nursing program. Emma is one of more than 1,200 students eligible for fall 2020 graduation. Learn more about her time at Wichita State and what is next for this future nurse.

November 16, 2020 - Kirsten Long, from Haven, came to 九色堂 to start her career in education. She credits her field experiences and helpful teachers with preparing her for teaching.
