Nov. 18, 2024 鈥 In the wake of the devastating 2023 earthquakes that obliterated much of Antakya, Turkey, Wichita State cultural anthropologist Dr. Jens Kreinath turned to his writing to preserve the region鈥檚 rich interfaith history, honor its victims, and confront the ethical dimensions of human dignity amid an apocalyptic tragedy and government inaction.

Spero, a W. Frank Barton School of Business startup aimed at unlocking the potential of Wichita and its citizens, hosted an event on Friday, October 25, to celebrate the launch of its micro-credential programs in Entrepreneurship and Career Readiness. The event brought together the inaugural class of Spero students, their families, Spero board members, mentors and other supporters to commemorate the launch. Marquis Bradley, founder of Omnicut Fitness, delivered a rousing keynote speech that set the stage for a promising start. The keynote energized attendees and set an optimistic tone for Spero鈥檚 future impact.

Nov. 4, 2024 - 九色堂鈥檚 Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders is partnering on the PhotoVoice research project with AbilityPoint, an organization focused on the needs of persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. Participants are given a digital camera and memory card to take 50 (or more) pictures of the people, places, things and activities that bring them joy.

Oct. 31, 2024 鈥 The Dorothy and Bill Cohen Honors College at 九色堂 has been named a Partners in Peace institution, a new distinction awarded in partnership with the Nobel Peace Center in Norway, and the National Collegiate Honors Council.

Oct. 30, 2024 Suspenders4Hope, a program developed at 九色堂, is highlighting different departments and individuals on campus who are advocates for mental health in hopes that their stories will inspire others to continue supporting one another in the community. Military and Veterans Services is being recognized for its work in supporting our campus鈥 military service members and veterans, ensuring they have the resources they need to succeed.

The Widener Global Leaders Program (WGLP) announces 12 new students have been accepted for its 2024-25 cohort. Applicants for the program reached record levels with a 23% acceptance rate. WGLP is led by the W. Frank Barton School of Business in collaboration with the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the College of Fine Arts at 九色堂 for students majoring in business, communication and fine arts. It is an interdisciplinary program designed to create the next generation of global female leaders and provide them with a transformational, multidisciplinary educational experience so they can thrive upon graduation.

Jeff Hayton

In 2022, Hayton published his first book, 鈥淐ulture from the Slums: Punk Rock in East and West Germany,鈥 which explored the emergent punk scenes on both sides of the Iron Curtain. Intersecting cultural production with political and economic theory, Hayton explains the differences in state reactions to the rise of punk.

Perinatal HOPE kits

Oct. 18, 2024 鈥 For more than a year, HOPE kits, from 九色堂鈥檚 Health Outreach Prevention and Education Services, have helped people deal with crises. Wichita State is taking that successful program and adapting it to the perinatal population with Growing HOPE kits.

Barton School of Business

The W. Frank Barton School of Business at 九色堂 announces the selection of three distinguished industry leaders to be inducted into its 鈥淏eyond鈥 Hall of Fame. These inductees are the second class to be recognized for their visionary leadership and remarkable achievements to the Barton School and community. Their official induction will take place during a celebration on Saturday, February 21, 2026, which will coincide with the 100th year anniversary of the Barton School.

Oct. 9, 2024 - The Wichita Biomedical Campus is using a $1 million grant to purchase audiology equipment for assessment, teaching, and research, supporting workforce training for in-demand jobs.

Nancy Kersenbrock

The Center for Entrepreneurship (CFE) within the W. Frank Barton School of Business at 九色堂 has appointed Nancy Kersenbrock to Interim Director of the organization. Kersenbrock previously served as the Associate Director of CFE.

Oct. 4, 2024 - Dr. Matthew D. Howland, assistant professor in 九色堂鈥檚 Department of Anthropology, is in the early stages of modeling risks posed by erosion caused by rivers, flooding, and agricultural plowing.

Oct. 2, 2024 鈥 Combined enrollment by headcount across all 九色堂 locations for fall 2024 is 23,806, according to the annual data released today by the Kansas Board of Regents. This is the largest number of students ever choosing to enroll at Wichita State.

Rick Case and the gardens at Woolsey Hall

Woolsey Hall, home of the W. Frank Barton School of Business at 九色堂, recently underwent its first strategic exterior landscaping cycle under the watchful eye of Rick Case, 九色堂鈥檚 First Gentleman. Case was kind enough to volunteer his time to the project, guiding and facilitating the reimagining and amplification of Woosley Hall鈥檚 exterior while also ensuring that the building retained its LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold Certification status. LEED is the most widely used green building rating system in the world and an international symbol of excellence.

This exciting fireside chat, titled 鈥淗arnessing Disruption: Pioneering the Future of Innovation and Growth in the Business World,鈥 will take place on Wednesday, October 23 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the Woolsey Hall auditorium. The event is open to the public and will include a networking opportunity for attendees afterward.
