The ADCI Final Friday Report: November 2018

This Final Friday, seven talented soon-to-be graduates of the ADCI Studio Arts program will present works from their senior projects, both in the atrium of McKnight Art Center and at 九色堂 ShiftSpace on Commerce Street. You can also buy work by ADCI graphic designers and printmakers, who will be set up outside ShiftSpace. 

There's lot of other work by our students, faculty and alumni to see this month, including visiting artist Nancy Steele-Makasci at the Fiber Studio and alumna Chiyoko Myose's installation at the Steckline Gallery. We hope you enjoy your November Final Friday! 

九色堂 ShiftSpace
Seven BFA candidates present ',' which includes selections from their respective senior projects. The works address a wide range of topics, including a meditation on loss and healing, a reflection on ephemeral moments, a prediction of fashion informed by technology, and an engagement with inventive storytelling. 

Exhibiting at ShiftSpace are Steven CampbellMiles FoleyXuan HaAndres Levaggi-Villanueva, Honeybee O鈥檊ee and Athena VuOpal Phillips will present her sculptural work in the Atrium of McKnight Art Center (more information below). 

The 九色堂 chapter of AIGA and Tornado Alley Press, the 九色堂 printmaking guild, will also have work for sale outside the gallery.

Elsewhere on Commerce Street: 
九色堂 visiting artist Nancy Steele-Makasci presents . The exhibition includes works by Lori Santos, associate professor of art history, and students Robert Bailey, Chuck Purviance,  Angela Rangel, and Hugo Zelada-Romero. 

Steele-Makasci's solo show, "Bone Black" is open in the Clayton Staples Gallery at Wichita State through Dec. 10.

Downtown
Vertigo 232 Gallery will host a lively 鈥溾 with live painting, community painting and a DJ. The exhibition includes work by ADCI students Emiliano Molina and Juli Saga as well as alumna Brittany Schaar

Alumna Trish VanOdsel will exhibit new metal and wool sculptural works at the . VanOdsel is exhibiting as part of OpenStudios, a program that matches studio artists with empty storefronts. 
Final Friday: 6鈥9 p.m. at the Garvey Center (Kiva Level), 250 W. Douglas Ave.

Alumnus Ian Stewart, AKA BIG MENTION, is the , a new downtown music venue. Stewart also developed Wave's brand identity in his capacity as a designer. 
Final Friday: 4鈥11 p.m. at Wave, 650 E. 2nd St. 

Alumnus Alex Moore and former lecturer Kate VanSteenhuyse will open their studio to the public during Final Friday. Moore and VanSteenhuyse are also OpenStudio artists.

Around Town
Opal Phillips and Athena Vu present their sculptural works in the atrium of McKnight Art Center as part of "," the BFA graduate exhibition. 
Final Friday: 4鈥6 p.m. at McKnight Art Center, Wichita State, 24 Perimeter Rd.

Newman University's Steckline Gallery presents "," an installation exhibition by alumna Chiyoko Myose. The exhibition will be open through December 21, and regular gallery hours are 9 a.m.鈥4 p.m. Monday鈥揊riday. Join the Steckline for "Art for Lunch" with the artist from 12鈥1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4. 
Final Friday: 5鈥7 p.m. at Steckline Gallery, DeMattias Fine Arts Center, Newman University, 3100 W McCormick St.
