Constitution Day returns to 九色堂 on Thursday, Sept. 20

Constitution Day 2018

The Kansas Court of Appeals will return to campus on Thursday, Sept. 20, in recognition of Constitution Day. A three-judge panel of the state appellate court will hear oral arguments in appeals for five cases from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Sept. 20, in the CAC Theater. Cases will be heard consecutively beginning at 9 a.m. After a recess for lunch, the court will reconvene at 1:30 p.m.

In 2014, West Virginia Senator Robert Byrd made an amendment to the Omnibus Spending Bill requiring all government-funded schools and federal agencies to provide educational programming on the United States Constitution.

Understanding Finance at 九色堂 on Tuesday, Sept. 18

Understanding finance at 九色堂 can be a challenge for budget officers and support staff. Lois Tatro will present 九色堂 Finance 101 from 9-10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, in 209 Hubbard Hall. The agenda includes information on GU and RU funding, how to stay on top of departmental finances, processing revenue, expenses, Visa procurement cards and more.

Wu's Big Event IX (Saturday, Oct. 6)

Join Community Service Board in a day of service at Wu's Big Event IX on Saturday, Oct. 6. Wu's Big Event is a bi-annual service event geared toward students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends of the university passionate about volunteering.

Volunteers will begin the day with a kick-off breakfast and keynote speaker. After opening events, volunteers will be bussed to one of seven service sites and perform three hours of community service with fellow Shockers. Upon return, volunteers will take part in reflection activities and receive a boxed lunch.

Grant funding opportunity from 九色堂's Regional Institute on Aging

Regional Institute on Aging

The Regional Institute on Aging at Wichita State is pleased to announce a new competitive funding opportunity for interdisciplinary faculty research. Two $20,000 grants will be awarded for two interdisciplinary research projects at 九色堂 that contribute to new knowledge and practice related to well-being in older adults.

This funding opportunity advances two goals of the university's strategic plan: Goal 1 - Guarantee an applied learning or research experience for every student by each academic program and Goal 4 - Accelerate the discovery, creation and transfer of new knowledge.

Psychology Department to offer parenting group sessions this fall

Psychology parenting sessions fall 2018

The 九色堂 Department of Psychology is offering a six-week parenting group in its Psychology Clinic this semester. The group targets parents of children 2-10 years old and covers techniques on how to manage behavioral problems at school and home.

Interested parents need to complete an intake session with assistant professor Samantha Gregus to determine appropriateness for group. This would be a 1-1.5 hour session, and parents need to contact Grugus directly at 316-978-3759 to schedule an intake. The intake cost is $10.

Group sessions will run from 5-6:30 p.m. Tuesdays in the Psychology Clinic, fourth floor of Jabara Hall. The cost of participating in the six group sessions is $50. The first session is scheduled on Tuesday, Oct. 2.


RH: UCLA Camp Started Taflinger's Path to 九色堂

went to UCLA's volleyball camp as small-college recruit with a big swing and lofty academic goals in the summer before her senior year in high school.
 
A few days later, that made her a perfect recruit for Wichita State, mostly thanks to California volleyball connections that stretch all the way to Koch Arena.

The outreach training team for the Kansas Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (KASFAA) has the answer for you! The 2018 Annual Financial Aid Workshop for High School Guidance Counselors, TRIO / Gear Up partners, Admissions and other higher ed professionals are coming to Wichita State on Thursday, Sept. 27, at the Hughes Metropolitan Complex. The workshop will be held from 8:30 a.m.-noon, and will cover completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), students' dependency status questions, scholarships and more.

Jeremy David Tarrant to present Guest Artist Recital

Jeremy David Tarrant organ recital Sept. 25, 2018

Canon precentor and organist-choirmaster of the Cathedral Church of St. Paul, Detroit, Jeremy David Tarrant directs an internationally recognized comprehensive music program. He will present a guest artist recital at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, in Wiedemann Hall.

Tarrant is the founding director of the Cathedral Choir School of Metropolitan Detroit. His recent recording on the organ in the First Presbyterian Church of Kirkwood in St. Louis of Widor's epic Seventh Symphony has received enthusiastic and critical acclaim in the United States and abroad.

Two organizations merge to form Women of 九色堂

Two organizations -- CUW and Women's Association 鈥 have merged and are called Women of 九色堂. Membership is open to all females.

The Chris Lamb Coaches Show started on Monday, Sept. 10 at AJ's Sports Bar & Grill at 13th and Greenwich Road (attached to The Alley) in Wichita. The show airs from 6-7 p.m. on KNSS 1330 AM and 98.7 FM with host Mike Kennedy. The show will air every Monday night from AJ's.

Gender Diversity Training to be offered on Tuesday, Sept. 25

Gender Diversity Training will be offered from 2:30-5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, in 266 RSC. The goal of the training is to educate and increase understanding of issues related to gender minority / transgender people. This training is a dynamic and interactive session that covers topics including inclusive language, understanding gender identity and expression, gender transitioning and common misconceptions.
