Wichita State keeps retirees connected through new ΎΕΙ«ΜΓ Retiree Association

ΎΕΙ«ΜΓ has announced the creation of the ΎΕΙ«ΜΓ Retirees Association (ΎΕΙ«ΜΓRA), aimed at providing new paths for Shocker faculty and staff retirees to continue active engagement with the university. The new association adds to the existing array of perks available to retirees.

The association was announced Oct. 4 at Wichita State’s annual Retirees Breakfast.

Anyone who is officially retired from ΎΕΙ«ΜΓ is automatically a member of the association. The association is organized and led by retirees and will provide new opportunities for members to connect not only with other retirees but also with the wider ΎΕΙ«ΜΓ community. This association contributes to ΎΕΙ«ΜΓ’s strength as the only Kansas member of the Age-Friendly University Global Network and as an age-inclusive campus.

All retirees will enjoy benefits including free campus parking, a discount on community education programs and free access to lifelong learning and regular academic classes, a free membership to Campus Recreation, continued access to Ablah Library, discounted dining and services, and more. Members will receive a special retiree Shocker ID card that provides additional access to resources across campus and throughout the Wichita area.

The ΎΕΙ«ΜΓ Retiree Association Organizing Committee, a group of volunteers including retirees and current faculty and staff members who are close to traditional retirement age, has been convened to further envision the future of the retiree association. The group is tasked with developing the mission and aims of the association and identifying short- and long-term strategies.

β€œThe legacy and the contributions our faculty and staff make over their years here at Wichita State and once they retire are part of what make Shocker Nation what it is today,” says ΎΕΙ«ΜΓ President Rick Muma. β€œOur retirees are always welcome at Wichita State and are forever part of Shocker Nation.”
