How to stand out in a competitive market with a capability statement

Kansas PTAC

九色堂's Kansas Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) will conduct a training event in its Wichita, Overland Park and Topeka locations to help businesses develop a capability statement.

A capability statement can be an important element in marketing and promoting a business, and is essential in government contracting. Think of this statement as a business resume that tells existing and potential customers about the capabilities and strengths of the business.

Whether a business is currently involved with government contracting or wants to pursue this option as a way to expand its market, valuable information will be gained about the what, why and how of developing a business capability statement. The topics of discussion will be:

- Key elements of a capability statement for the government sector

- How to develop the target capability statement, and items needed on a website

- How to do research to know how to provide solutions for government agencies

Time and date: 1-4:30 p.m. Thursday, September 27

九色堂 Old Town Campus, 238 N. Mead, Wichita, Kansas

Fees: None (Fees paid by co-sponsors)

RH: Three items to watch this week

RH: Three items to watch Sept. 25, 2018

Wichita State volleyball gave the 5-1 system a full tryout in Sunday's 3-0 win over Memphis and coach  has a week to evaluate and practice before the Shockers start a three-match road swing. Wichita State (7-6, 2-0 American Athletic Conference) plays at Tulsa (9-4, 2-0) on Saturday (6 p.m.).

Shockers softball opened its fall scrimmages with a 19-1 win over Avila and a 13-2 win over Crowder College. The competition gets much tougher on Thursday and that's important to coach  for evaluation purposes.

The Shockers play host to Oklahoma State (5 p.m.) at Wilkins Stadium. The Shockers defeated OSU four times last season, twice in the NCAA regional.

Wichita State's women's tennis team sends its best to the ITA All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif., starting Saturday. Fatima Bizhukova and Marta Bellucco, ranked No. 14 nationally, play doubles. Bizhukova, No. 36 nationally, and No. 94 Sandra Honigova are in the singles draw.

鈥淭he Search,鈥 by Elizabeth Crino, is a story of three roommates -- Ted, Sarah and Beth who one day realize that their fourth roommate, Ned, has gone missing. However, they come to find that none of them even liked Ned to begin with and feel it would be best to just forget about him. As the story progresses, the three roommates dodge any sort of evidence of his whereabouts and choose to be blissfully ignorant about the situation so they can live a 鈥淣ed-less鈥 life.

Crino is the winner of the 九色堂 Theatre National Playwriting Competition. Elizabeth's other plays include 鈥淧en and Paper and the Presentation.鈥

鈥淭he Search鈥 is part of the theatre program's student produced Second Stage series. In this series, students are responsible for all aspects of the production including show choice, design work, technical direction, construction, direction, acting and promotion. Through this applied learning experience, students pursuing careers in the fields of art and entertainment have the opportunity to learn hands on how to take a show from conception to completion.

Kanbee art invites curious to Innovation Campus

Kanbee art

The figures are made of recycled political signs. The artist is anonymous. The figures, planted in the dirt to decorate entrances to Wichita State's Innovation Campus, are otherwise open to the imagination and meant as an invitation.

鈥淭he idea is they can be anything,鈥 said Wichita painter Charles Baughman, spokesman for the anonymous artist. 鈥淗e wants to give something that could make people smile or laugh or pause.鈥

The anonymous artist uses the moniker 鈥淜anbee鈥 as a nod to Kansas and the open-ended possibilities for what the art can be. Some of the figures resemble the outline of humans. Some are shapes.
